About

portraitHi, I’m Jason MacDee.

I craft software, myself, and others. Graphic design launched me into web development around 1996. Video game development then excited me for a few scholastic years. Then I graduated in Software Engineering from Auburn University in 2006. Now I’m a full-time agile software craftsman centered on architecture, process, domain driven design, Web APIs, and user experience for off-the-shelf and SaaS products. I’ve run the gamut from consulting, to small businesses, to one of the largest enterprise ISVs around. I enjoyed each in its own way, but passionate creators excite me more than their launchpads or medium.

Software Craftsman? I’ve held many software-related titles over the years: Programmer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Software Architect, Lead, Coach, ScrumMaster, etc. Ultimately, I’ve found they’re all really just subdisciplines of craftsmanship. I approach software creation as a blend of engineering and science that requires constant improvement, community, and mentorship to chase a moving target of mastering the art of knowing when to do what.

When I’m not hammering away on software stuff, I’m often rock climbing, mountain biking, video gaming, philosophizing, hitting people in Dagorhir, reading, learning, traveling, or enjoying time with my family.
